Abstract:
Interventional endovascular embolization achieves various therapeutic objectives by delivering embolic agents to target vessels, offering significant advantages over traditional surgery. Liquid embolic agents have attracted considerable attention owing to their properties of high permeability, controllability, and stability. However, liquid embolic agents currently used in clinical practice suffer from drawbacks such as catheter adhesion, non-target embolization, complex procedures, and poor biocompatibility and mechanical properties. This article presents the types of liquid embolic agents approved in China and abroad, outlines their applications in endovascular embolization, and summarizes novel liquid embolic agents in clinical and preclinical stages. In addition, the future development of liquid embolization agents is also discussed to provide guidance and reference for future research and development of novel liquid embolic agents.
